The CD Project

Nearly everyone I know has got some old Vinyl records hanging around the house somewhere.

When they were bought, it was usually because they were our favourites at the time or just that they added to our collections.  Either way,  preserving them (or the memories associated with them) is not so difficult that they be lost forever.

Hopefully I can explain to you, how to transfer the vinyl to the CD without a whole lot of hassle.

You will need the following :-

Your Computer

A sound card or sockets for "line in" (usually at the rear of the computer and coloured light blue)

[The middle of the three circular holes in this picture]

Leads from Record Player to PC or                           Leads from Tape Recorder to PC

Your Tape Recorder or Record Player

A program to record sound into the computer.

http://www.sound-recorder.com/ offers a good range of different sound recording facilities at a low price.

Or you can get a FREE Hi-Q Recorder from "Roemer Software" on this link  Although the software is FREE it does limit the recording type to MP3 files.  A full upgrade to the complete software is only $29.95 (£17.50)(€25.00)

Sound blaster cards usually have a facility with their software.

A CD writer or DVD writer in your computer

WHAT YOU DO

Connect your PC to the record deck using the appropriate cable.

Prepare your record to be preserved on the record player deck and start to record the sound. Once recording has started on the PC , set the record playing.   At the end of the record  save the file you have just created and name it.  You may need to run though this procedure a few times to get the sound balance and volume just right. When your happy with your settings carry on to do the whole record

Clicks and scratches can be removed using sound editing software such as "Audio Cleaning Lab"  available from www.magix.com.

Scan a copy of the record sleeve and reduce it down to fit on a CD case. And your done.

NOTE WELL.

Most records, tapes and pre-recorded music has copyright to the artist and writers of the music. Copying records and tapes could infringe the copyright of the Record or Tape. Please check this out before you start copying.
